Biomes are identified by the plants, animals, environments and climates common to each.

Karen's map shows 9 biomes—desert, tundra, temperate grasslands, temperate forests, tropical forests, tropical grasslands, wetlands, mountains and oceans—although scientists do not agree on the number of distinctive biomes in the world today.
